In my opinion, Garmins are the best for the money. I own a Nuvi 205 which I've had for 6 months now and love it. The 205 is available for $120 and the 205W (larger screen) is only $150.

I finally pulled the trigger on a nav system recently after looking at them for years. The brand that always held my attention was Navigon they always had the best feature/price ratio out of all of the brands. However they announced recently that they are no longer going to produce hardware for the US market :( they are going to develop software.
I have the 7200t, and I purchased a 2200 for my girl. The 7200 cost me $230 on eBay (purchased the week before the announcement). Now they are going for under $200 in most places.
The website I use for online deals is Deals of America They have the fastest updates that Ive seen for a deals site. They will advertise all of the brands and what deals they have.
I got a Mio for Christmas a couple of years ago... It has been great. My one complaint is that the battery life has really gone down, so I need to keep it plugged in most of the time.
I was actually asking for a navigon, but my dad (who made the purchase) did some research and said that the problem with the Navigon is that the route correction is slow.
Hmm just a thought to consider, but before you take the plunge and buy a car-specific navigation system, consider that the new software update for the iPhone will include turn-by-turn navigation capability, so if you happen to have one, you might want to consider holding off until your old phone learns a few new tricks. Everything you could want to know about the new software update is included in this article.

You can always find great deals on GPS systems. If anything though, go with a Garmin for sure. Every person in my family has one (6 people) and we always talk about how we couldn't live without them. Search Dealnews and you sure to find a great deal.
Make sure you get "text-to-speech" so the system actually speaks the street name. Its much more helpful than it saying something like "turn left here."
