Have you thought about working out before you goto work? I find it hard to motivate myself to go to the gym after work so, I'll try and go before!

Although it has already been mentioned, I'd just like to say it again because I think it would help: mixing up a workout is definitely a way to keep things "new and exciting."

Starting is the hardest part, so it's really about pushing yourself to actually do it. If it's something you're not used to then it's going to take some effort, but after a while it becomes part of your day.

Best of luck.

Get a comfortable saddle for your bike (I ride the Specialized saddles on all my bikes), a pair of bib shorts, you can always throw other shorts on top, but in terms of comfort, nothing beats the bibs. Get a water bottle and a multi tool. If you are riding around the city, provided your tires are fully inflated and you don't ride like a complete hack, you shouldn't have any issues with flats. Next throw all your stuff on the floor directly in the way of you when you leave for work. That way when you come home, you will have all your equipment ready for a ride and have no excuse not to. Upgrading things like cycling shoes, properly fitted and well venting helmet can all come after you start riding more.

Do it early in the morning. Traffic is usually light and you get it out of the way first thing. Once you make it part of your daily routine it becomes easier.

And I second Sam's bib recommendation. Go Specialized. They manufacture great cycling clothes.

Find a workout partner. Then you have someone to push you, as well as someone to push. It also gives you company while working out so that you're not staring at the wall for an hour while on the stationary bike.

I don't recommend eating dinner before working out. Every time I do that, I fall into a food coma and working out is the last thing on my mind.

Also, as you get into a routine you'll find that you don't like missing workouts because you'll feel more sluggish the next day from just lounging on the couch.

If you have trouble motivating yourself (I had the same problem until the routine just became a "habit"), I say take advantage of your friends. Even if they're in shape, try to work out with them every day. You'll get to the point where you feel that you'd be letting them down if you didn't. Plus it's 300 times easier to work out with someone else. Eventually, your daily workout will become routine so even if your friend can't make it, you instinctively just go too.
