What is a good sandy/gritty facewash?
St. Ive's apricot face wash works well.

Try Jack Black Face Buff Energizing Scrub
Normally, I wouldn't spend so much on a facial cleanser, however, I got a tube as a gift and now I'm hooked. It's especially effective when used right before shaving.
The one I use is Lush's Ocean Salt Scrub: http://www.lushusa.com/shop/products/face/cleansers/ocean-salt
It uses fine sea salt instead of sand or anything like that, so rinsing is easier, and not entirely unpleasant if you get it in your mouth. It also smells great and can convince me I've already taken a shower.
I second the St. Ives Apricot Scrub. I can't imagine a woman could use it, it's that coarse.
The Jack Black stuff is good, but if you want the same quality for half the price go for the Green Neutrogena Stuff
I use Coal Face from Lush. It uses powdered charcoal as an exfoliant and has cleared up my skin brilliantly.
I use Kiehl's Facial Fuel I have used the St Ives stuff in the past, but the facial fuel has become a standard in my pre shave routine.
