Negating the initial argument over creamy vs. crunchy.
Trader Joe's has a Valencia peanut butter that's quite good. It's cheap, too. I don't have the ingredients in front of me, but it's organic, and I'm pretty sure it's just peanuts and salt. It doesn't have that bland, "all-natural" peanut butter taste, and it spreads well.
This one's easy.
Krema has been pumping out their perfectly roasted, slightly salty, "my-mom-makes-it-best-even-though-it's-just-two-pieces-of-bread-smashed-together" peanut butter since 1898.
Ingredients? Peanuts, period.
Made here in Columbus, Ohio, so come show us some love.

I would second the TJ's peanut butter. Alternatively, some natural food stores, like one in which I worked, have their own nut mills to make fresh nut butters. Try a peanut/cashew butter blend.
Just bought the TJ's Organic Chunky PB (valencia peanuts) last night. It's our favorite. If you don't have a Trader Joe's nearby, our backup is Smucker's Natural, which tastes good and uses only peanuts and salt.
If you want just-peanuts peanut butter, you really should just go to a health-food store where most have machines available for you to make your own right then and there. Now of course, the lack of preservatives is a problem if you don't go through peanut butter that quickly, but mold growth can be avoided by adding a thin layer of oil (peanut would work, I'm sure) to the top of it so that the butter below is completely covered. This will prevent mold growth on the surface of the fresh peanut butter.
Skippy "Natural" is pretty awesome. It uses palm oil instead the partially hydrogenated crap which is where you find the bad fats. You don't have to stir anything and it stays fresh for a long time. They also make a chunky version. The best part is that its Skippy, so you can find it just about anywhere and don't HAVE to visit a Trader Joe's or someplace too special.
I love Trader Joes salty crunchy...but I don't live near a Trader Joe's. I've made a pretty good knock-off by adding sea-salt to Adam's natural peanut butter. Not the no-stir kind (Which has some oils added), but the regular, puddle-of-oil on top type. Ingredients, Peanuts. Salt.
Teddie all the way! It's available in my local supermarket, but that might be because it's made up the street. Just peanuts and salt if you don't go for unsalted. I like it better than the Trader Joe's stuff, I think it's a little more robust, if you can call PB robust.
You can almost never go wrong with Trader Joes. Adams 100% All Natural Peanut Butter is also a personal favorite.
I second Matt.
Skip Natural is good, cheap, and readily available
Trader Joe's used to have a really good natural peanut butter but something seems to have happened to it in the last 4 of 5 years. Now it is just peanut paste, with oil and chopped peanuts sitting on top. I think it is terrible.
For good, affordable all natural peanut butter I highly recommend Teddie. It is perfectly salty and so fresh I almost never have to stir it upon opening.
A while back I received a gift membership in a peanut butter and jelly of the month club. My favorite two natural, healthy peanut butters from the club were:
1) Nutty's Original Honey Roasted.

2) Cream-Nut Natural Peanut Butter.

The grind-your-own Honey Roasted Peanut Butter from Whole Foods in awesome. Basically the only reason I go to Whole Foods.
If you have a Costco membership I would have to say that their Kirkland Organic peanut butter Rocks!
Nothing artificial, just organic peanuts and salt.
Gotta recommend anything at Trader Joe's. Also had some PB in Michigan that I believe was purchased at Meijer's (a chain up there) which was totally organic and phenomenal, too.
Parkers Farm Peanut Butter is the best I have tasted. You can find it at Whole Foods in the refrigerated section and most specialty stores. My favorite flavor is the honey roasted crunchy.
Maybe the best part is that it only has three ingredients: Peanuts, Honey, Salt.
Skippy Natural in an extreme pinch, but generally I second Kevin's vote for Ohio's Krema!
Esquire said Cream-Nut is "the best in America": http://www.esquire.com/features/food-drink/sandwich-materials-0308.
Sold by the foodie gods at Zingerman's
and here
I have to say that Peanut Butter & Co is the best. All different kinds of peanut butter too! I've even been able to get it at my local grocery store.
If you've got a Costco nearby, their Kirkland brand organic peanut butter is pretty amazing. The knock, of course, against organic peanut butter is how it separates at room temp. I just dump the jar into some kind of container, mix it up, and store it in the fridge. Stays at the right consistency and is delicious.
once again, the "best answer so far" is far from the best.
Here is the best answer:
Aside from the natural peanut butter (peanuts and oil) you can get at health food stores, Smuckers has a line of natural peanut butters that are exactly the same, just peanuts and oil. They have smooth and chunky varieties as well.
I'd have to go with the fresh ground almond butter available at health food stores. Its DELICIOUS!
skippy natural is the way to go. Tastes just like normal peanut butter without the saturated fatty acids.
I'd have to agree with Scott above..
Best tasting is fresh ground peanut butter using roasted peanuts and adding some raw honey to sweeten it a little rather than using the honey roasted peanuts. I do this at my local Whole Foods.
I also like to mix peanut butter and almond butter, extra chunky on both please..
There is only one answer: Smucker's Natural. Best flavor, best consistency and just two ingredients: peanuts and salt.

Simply Jif is great. Trader Joes PB is all pretty good too. I wouldn't mess with anything too complicated like "Better'N Peanut Butter" if you want something that's going to taste like it always has without all the sugar.
