Sweat smell especially.
Saddle Soap will do the trick.
by purchasing a new one - if you are so in love with a particular then buy several and as they rot off your wrist replace them from your stash

Set it outside in the sun for several days. That has always worked for me.
expose it to ozone.. this is one good use for those Sharper Image Ionic Breeze units.. it's the same process that car detailers use to rid car interiors of smells.. the smell is embedded into the leather.. higher end crocodile straps can run 300USD+, so replacing isn't always an option.. you might want to also try this, place the band around a cotton sock that is filled with activated charcoal and place that into a sealed plastic bag.. until the smell is either eliminated, or reduced to your tolerance..

Sounds like it's time for a new leather watch band. If you wear a leather band watch as your day to day, you should replace it every year. Also an opportunity to try something a little different for a whole new look! A lot of jewelry stores stock leather watch bands.
