I'll be traveling overseas this summer, and I need to be able to get online anywhere. What are my options? Can I get 3G or satellite for my laptop?
I recommend that if you work at an office you try and see if you can snag a 3g card (like described by Andrew). They usually have a bunch and there ridiculously expensive commercially particularly worldwide service.
If that fails if you have a smartphone see is your a "tether" service is available (usually around $30 month extra) you can add to your service. This will allows your phone to create it's own wireless (or wired if you can get the right wire) network from it's 3g.
If you don't have an office oran it department or a 3g phone that can be tethered available, there are a few websites that let you swap and buy parts of peoples cell phone contracts and I'm sure you can find a site that also does 3g cards (because there standard 2 year contracts and you only want a few months). If you're truly remote, there are other options for data. One of which is to use some of the same equipment as our SOF troops are currently using Trivec Satcom.

You can get 3G cards and mobile roaming packages from AT&T. They work most anywhere you'd be going, but not everywhere. Check out the DataConnect Global+ plan. $139 + fees per MB used.
