The Sharper Image blueair 450E
is a good way to go. Runs a little on the pricey side ($500), but uses a good HEPA filters that would help keep dust levels down.
The best air purifier of all is mother nature. Why not try this outdoor green office? http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eco-loving-workstations-using-solar-sun-loving-power-desk Hook up a mosquito net around it or put up some bug candles and you will be good to go.
The Rabbit is pretty cool, but a tad pricey.
I like this air purifier because it has the multiple filters, ionizer and UV light and you get 2 for less than the price of 1 Rabbit.
They've got other air purifier models to choose from too.
You could go with something from oreck too

The best air purifier period also happens to be the most expensive: the IQ Air Health Pro (http://www.iqair.com/residential/roomairpurifiers/healthproplus.php)
It's been top rated by several consumer agencies. I got one after fighting a four-month bronchial infection that left with me years of allergies for the first time in my life. After sleeping with thia air purifier running for a about six month, the infection and the allergies went away.
Get the small version if you can afford it. I'm actually selling mine because I moved from Los Angeles to a beach town nearby with fresh air and don't need it anymore.
There is always the balance between cost and effectiveness. I own a business dealing with air purification and other environmental services.
1. Anything is better than nothing.
2. Stay with a HEPA system.
3. Although I use high concentrations of ozone for my business, I do not recommend ozone units unless they are mounted in an HVAC system.
4. The Honeywell HEPA units sold at Home Depot are more than adequate for home use and will not cost you a lot of money.
5.I honestly to not see the need for an expensive machine because you do not live in a clean room or laboratory.

I'm a fan of the Rabbit Air Minus A2
Been using it for the last year. It's very quiet, the auto-sensor mode works well, and it goes into ultra-quiet mode when the lights go down, so you can even put it in a home theater. It looks good too. Visitors don't even recognize it as an air filter, and ask what it is. But it's functional too. That face plate is on a magnetic latch, comes right off, making it easy to clean or replace the filters.
