How bout the Invisible Shield
It's clear and scratch-proof and adds no additional weight.
Personally, I don't like most phone cases. They almost always ruin the form of the phone, which is especially unfortunate with an iPhone, because the form is the biggest justification for the expense. Plus, unless you're incredibly clumsy, I think most go way overboard in the protection department.
I'm a very big fan of Apple's iPod socks:http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9720G/B?fnode=MTY1NDA4Mg&mco=MjE0Nzc1Ng They add almost no bulk to the phone so it still fits in your pocket, and they prevent your phone from getting scratched in your pocket, which is probably all the protection you need. Plus, you get six of them for $30, so if you get sick of a color, you can just switch it.
Try the Ultraslim Pouch from Sena. Its great for keeping scratches off the iPhone while it's in your pocket. It has almost no cushioning for drop protection, so if you're a person who tends to drop your phone, you'll want something bulkier that'll probably ruin the slimness of the phone.
If you're not worried about dropping your phone, and just want something for scratch protection, then Incipio Feather is definitely the way to go.

Another vote for SwitchEasy, but this time for the CapsuleRebel . For $25, you get tank-like, two-layer protection, two screen protectors, a video stand, a dock connector cover, a Universal Dock Adapter (so you can dock the thing while it's in the case in nearly any iPhone stereo system), and a screen wipe. Seriously, it can't be beat.
The Solo by iSkin is a different type of silicone, one that is smooth to the touch and fits the iPhone tightly with no loose areas. If you get it in black, you almost won't notice that you have anything on you iPhone.
I don't like silicone either, but this one is different and worth it.
The Air Jacket by Power Support is literally the best case I have ever had for any phone.

People think that I don't even have a case, its only 1mm thick at its thickest. Get the black one, the clear is slippery, My girlfriend wanted that one and then wanted me to buy her the black one because it always slipped out of her hand.
another vote for InvisibleShield, however just for the back and even then simply for some added grip. the 3GS screen doesn't need any protection and the new oleophobic screen drastically reduces fingerprints and makes your finger glide across it very smoothly (coming from my experience with both an iPod touch & my 3GS).
As another person said, most cases just seem to add bulk and ruin the design. The iPhone is pretty resilient in and of itself.
Belkin makes an excellent black leather case. Its not sticky like silicone, and not going to lose any tactility, like the rubberized ones can.
I have the Griffin Reveal
its great. if you have a black iphone you see the scratches but it is a great minimalist case. has some silicon like outer border for shock dampening if you drop it. all in all a great case.
Check out the Incase Slider Case It is a bit more expensive but extremely durable and doesn't change the form of the phone while protecting it. It also comes with a free stand.

We have had really good luck with the Switch Easy Neo: www.switcheasy.com/products/Neo/Neo.php# . I got one for my wifes 3G a while back, and ordered one for the 3G S replacing my 1st Gen.
It looks cleaner than a lot of the silicone cases I have seen, and the plastic side bits provide some structure and additional protection. Its also much less bulky then the Speck hard plastic case I had before it. Another upside is they include a universal dock atapter so you can drop it in with the case on, two screen protecters and little plugs you can use to cover the dock and headphone connector ports. All for $26 plus $3 for shipping. Clean, classy, complete and a bargain.
