Definitely a 14 foot sea kayak. These are designed for open water kayaking. They are much better suited to cutting through waves than a recreation or white water kayak is.
Before you purchase any kayak, demo a boat or 5 to get the one that best fits you. Also, since you will be going sea kayaking, buy a few books and maybe find a seminar to attend on sea kayak safety. Kayaking on the open water is much different than kayaking a lake or river.
It's a bit of an investment in both time and money, but the kayak kits from Pygmy Boats are both beautiful and excellent boats.
