"Contigo Autoseal Mug:
Far and away the best travel mug I've used is the Contigo Autoseal Stainless Steel Mug. The Autoseal mechanism is the most leak-proof design I've found; it seals automatically when you're not actively drinking from it, so there's no worry about knocking it over with the top open. This is the only mug I'll use around my computers now."

Another vote for the Contigo mugs. One-hundred percent leakproof and keep coffee hot for several hours at a time. Not that good coffee should take that long to drink.

They are currently available at Costco for $20 per set of 2.
I have to vote for Nissan here. My family uses these exclusively.
They are also vacuum-insulated. I have the one for tea drinkers. I freaking love it. It is super slim, lightweight, leak-free, and keeps things piping hot for hours. I once left it out in my car in sub 20 degree (fahrenheit) weather, lid off, for over an hour. When I got back to the car, it was still hot.
I also regularly turn it upside down and shake vigorously, just to make sure it really is leak-proof. Slightly neurotic, perhaps. But it has never once leaked.
There are several sizes/styles available.
This portable french press (also works as tea infuser) works great for me

I believe this Thermos Nissan is the best travel mug out there. It keeps your coffee hot for a couple of hours, it has a nice non-slip rubber grip pad around the middle, and, best of all, it has a lever to open the top for sipping. You only need one hand to drink from this cup, so your other hand can stay on the steering wheel.
I have about 3 of these; they last for years and are great.
I dislike the taste that metal coffee cups give to my brew. I always prefer ceramic but most ceramic coffee cups have a handle that is too low to fit in the drink holder in a car. My big find was the IKEA Pokal Tumbler
I don't want my road coffee to be hot forever, that's what a thermos is for. By simply not filling it completely the high sides prevent spills.
Nissan Backpack is the best of the Nissan mugs
I haven't tried the Contigo.
Another vote for the Contigo AutoSeal
Good capacity and they do. not. spill. Also available in a variety of colors and materials.
One more for Contigo! It fits nicely in my bike's bottle holder, and no spill means no sticky bike!
Have to give good rating to the Thermos/Nissan mugs. We got two of these last Christmas and they are great. We got these specific ones because there are no problems cleaning the lids.
It's more mug than thermos, but they're the best things to drink anything from hot coffee to cold beer from and they have spill-resistant lids as well.
They're the kind of things that you have to own to know how much you needed them.
They're Tervis Tumblers and you can even personalize them if you'd like.

Hands down, the Thermos E5 . It's an actual vacuum-insulated thermos. That makes it a larger for its capacity (16oz) than a normal travel mug, but it will keep coffee hot for hours. It's got a 360 degree sip top, so you can drink directly from it. Yet still seals up tight. They also make a version without a handle, which I prefer since you don't really need a handle on a mug that doesn't get hot on the outside. Makes it easier to stuff in a bag.
