Not trying to be cheap or anything, but "hands-down" the Vizio 37" LCD HDTV is awesome. I've had it for a year. It's 1080p, my movies are sharp and my video games are even sharper. You'll only be spending about $650 for it.
That all depends on if you want plasma, lcd or led technology.
You probably won't get anything in LED for that price, but you may find a good LCD. If you want "quality" then look for something that does 120hz, and 4ms or less refresh rate.
If quality isn't your thing, then go to Amazon, Costco or Tiger Direct and just pick whatever fits your budget.
IMO, the best 37" LCD on the market is the Panasonic Viera TC-37LZ800. It retails just over $1,000 but can be had for less during certain promotional seasons or refurbished. I bought mine used for $600 and couldn't be happier with it. Highest rated 37" on Consumer Reports and well worth the price.

Vizio makes the best flat screen (LCD) for the money currently. I've had a 37" Vizio for about a year now and it's been great. Got mine for $700 at CostCo.
Currently they have a few 37"-ers listed on their site.
This one stands out currently ($735 MSRP):

I just bought a Panasonic TC-L37X1 for my bedroom. The SD isn't the best, but the HD is great and the sound quality is the best I've heard. I can actually hear what they're saying without a separate speaker system and it's clear as day! The best part, I paid 649$ with free shipping from buydig. If you don't like the 720p version my guess is for a little more the 1080p TC-L37S1 is great too and I think you can find it for 699-749$
I could not be happier with my Vizio, and I've had it for a little over 2 years, so they've improved their specs and dropped their price. 37"s go for around $750 I think
Be sure to check Brandsmart USA. I got a nice Samsung 37" for only $500. It was a floor model, so its not gonna last as long as a new one, and it also didn't come with any manuals (but who reads those anyway) I knew it was a risk, but I have been very pleased so far. risk=return
I'll second and third the votes for Vizio.
We looked at many choices and we're impressed with the picture quality and the number of outputs (2 HDMI ports, etc.) Vizio had to offer.
We got our 42" at CostCo during a sale and paid about $1100 for it. 37" should be right in the range you are looking for.
I would recommend against buying a 37" LCD if possible. LCDs panels are manufactured at standard sizes, and a 37" screen wastes a lot of material, which gets passed on to you in the cost. You get more screen for your dollar stepping down to 32" or up to 42". You may be constrained to that size based on your space -- but if you have flexibility shop for one size up.
If you have a sound system and dont need the TV speakers, Tiger has for $580 a Westinghouse 42" 1080P Monitor with HDMI, DVI, VGA, and Component inputs

First always Samsung! They are one of the worlds leading designers of LCD Panels, are always a tremendous bang for the buck, and most other LCD companies use Samsung panels in their TV's. Douglas T is right, go for a 40" It is normally not much more in terms of $$ because the 37" wastes a lot of material. Stick with standard technology as a 40" is not big enough to really take advantage of all the things that 120Hz, or LED offer.
Go to fatwallet.com and look for deals and coupons. I bought a $1200 42 inch Panasonic Plasma (TH-42PX80U) for $800 at Circuit City after coupons and rebates. Panasonic makes the best all around plasmas in my opinion.

Unless you want to go really low-end, the 37-inch Samsung LN37A550 is a great pick. But it's $935 at Amazon. If you wanted quality, but could drop down a size, this 32-inch Sony Bravia at $800 looks pretty decent.
