I'm looking for something that's not too expensive and that will not take up too much space in my small apartment.
I have an Armored Humidor Systems small travel humidor - holds about 15 cigars, nice seal, very sturdy, and cigars are safely held between foam beds.
If you're going to make your own out of tupperware, I'd suggest using a Humidipak as your humidification device. They last up to 6 months and release a very even level of humidity so as not to zap your sticks with a bunch of moisture and then quickly dry out. You want to avoid that cycle. Best part, humidipaks run like $6-12. http://www.humidipak.com/

Agreed on the Armored Humidor. I've been using one for years and just replace with new humidipaks every 6 months or so. Works awesome. Also perfect for travel since the foam trays keep the cigars separate and protected.
An alternative to the travel humidors suggested is simply a small 25-50 cigar humidor. Cheap Humidors sells several and I've been happy with both models I've purchased from them. Just make sure not to trust any of the built-in hygrometers. Do yourself and your cigars a favor by picking up the suggested Humidipak (I actually favor the Boveda humidity packs or large crystal humidifiers) and a digital hygrometer. Most of the smaller size humidors should easily fit on a bookshelf or wherever you hide the booze.

for strict function over form. Plastic food containers (tupperware, etc) simply insert a Drymistat tube along with your cigars and youre golden. you can also line it with a little spanish cedar, but thats optional. these are the ones i use: http://tinyurl.com/ya7hgkr
ive converted things as large as a 165qt igloo cooler into a "coolidor" the possibilies are endless once you start thinking outside of the (spanish cedar) box.
but if you want something more tradition then i would suggest takin a look at Cigars International they have plenty of 20ct humi's for aroud $30
