I'm sick and tired of white walls. Have you came across a great room color? What is a good paint brand?
I really like Benjamin Moore paints. They have a great selection of color and their Historical palette is really nice.
Benjamin Moore is by far the best can of paint available. I have worked for a Benjamin Moore Signature store fir over 5 years, and there is no comparison to any other brand on the market. They have several different products to meet your financial and environmental needs with over 5000 colors to chose from. If you cant find a color you like from their selection, they can match 95% of all other companies colors almost identically. I would say 30-40% of the customers who come into my store are people whi previously used inferior paint brands who now need to re-do what they recently did. Do yourself a favor and do it right the first time, use Benjamin Moore.
For those of you who live on Long Island, New York - go to Cappy's Paint & Wallpaper in New Hyde Park!
At a certain point it becomes a function of how you apply it. Benjamin Moore and Behr Premium Plus are tried and true; really consistent and excellent. Get a nice eggshell enamel on top of a tinted primer for one coat coverage on darker colors. Be weary of boutique and designer paints(Martha Stewart, Ralph Lauren) unless the mixer is a true professional. They tend to be less consistent because of their custom blend of thickeners and pigments but remain the ideal alternative.
I painted houses in the summers for a number of years and by far the best paint we used was California Paints. A close second is Benjamin Moore. Both give great coverage and the paint store can mix any color you want (or come damn close).
Do not buy "designer" paints like Ralph Lauren etc. that stores offer and lure people in. You will end up having to paint the room at least 1 or 2 times more than you originally planned.
For classic style, check out Farrow and Ball. They have a classic color palette and will do free color consultations at their store or over the phone.
Avoid cheap paint that filled with chemicals. They have a new line that's very green.
I like Benjamin Moore paints for doors and trim, but I use Behr Premium Paints for inside walls. Behr paints seem to hold up better and they easy to clean. I have rental properties and I use Behr paints on all of them. My color of choice in Navajo White for interior walls and white semi-gloss for trim. You can't go wrong with those colors.
I painted with a company for a few years and if you ask any professional they would tell you to go with a Sherwin-Williams Brand paints they are the highest durability and best coverage. Of their line of Interior Paints there is no need to get a fancy line of paint (exterior is a different story) but the ProMar 400 of the ProMar 200 low voc are going to be your best bet. And as for colors, from experience, shades of reds are the hardest to paint if you are painting over your white walls and you might need one to two extra coats to make the wall color match the one on the chip (only one extra with a good paint like the promar), but deep reds can be a great looking color on a wall when done right. Tones of Greens and Yellows I think are the most dynamic colors on the walls and you will find that their character will change depending on the lighting conditions, which could make a room really interesting. A lot of people say stay away from deep deep colors because it will make a room feel smaller but if you match a deep rich brown with warm lighting it could give you a great feel... hope this helps- my suggestion would be to stay away from nuetrals a pick a color with character, people are always afraid of something too bold, but it is just paint and can always be changed. If you feel the need to test get a quart and paint one wall that will be hit with some natural and artificial light throughout the day after a few days you will figure out if it is gross or if it can grow on you.
Another vote for Benjamin Moore. The Aura line costs a small fortune but goes on great and is much more durable and washable then cheaper paints. Worth the extra money.
