I'd say it's less about obtaining a new assortment of ties all at once and more about picking up both updated standards as well as unique standards every now and then.
I probably obtain a new tie every 3-4 months, and this way I maintain a refreshed collection in my opinion.
I'd suggest splurging on your 'impact' pieces with one from Zenga and keeping your throw-around ties on a more frugal budget, such as JCrew.

Nothing says you have to get rid of your old ties, but if they have proven they aren't going to stand the test of time, have really bad prints, or generally don't seem to fit into your wardrobe anymore, then you may want to get rid of them.
