Is bringing back the ascot a good or bad idea?

Absolutely, but you can only wear them with spats.

I bought one last summer and have yet to wear it. Everytime I put it on, I feel like a fool.

I think that an ascot or cravat is something that has to be dealt with very carefully. I am actually considering wearing one to an upcoming formal dinner. They can only be worn in the most formal of occasions because the casual day cravat kind of targets you as a pretentious jerk. However, in the proper setting, an ascot can be very eye-catching and dashing if worn properly and with respect.

The question isn't if it's a good idea, it's a question if you can pull it off or not. Unfortunately I think if you had to ask what other people though, you won't be able to pull it off. I think you have to be a little more 'I don't give a f***' to wear an ascot (or cravat). funny how that works out...

As already said - it's more a question as to whether you can pull it off or not. Also, you have to consider the situation / location it will be worn to.

A very formal event, in a nice location = go ahead! I probably wouldn't wear one anywhere else though.

As an example; I wore one to my wedding. My wife and I were married in a mansion from the 20's, and my tux + ascot was a perfect fit.
