Wow, some of you guys are way too easily offended lol.

Yes, it's fine to wear non-prescription glasses. If you like how they look (or if your eyes need protection from the wind), then go for it. You can wear what you want to. Free country and all. It's a simple fashion accessory, not a false appendage or a gimpy leg as some have likened it to. It's not like the slightly vision impaired are victims of persecution or anything (aside from the odd 6 year old calling them 4 eyes). Nor does a stylish pair of glasses poke fun at their "Disability". It's not like they are rolling around in a wheelchair (you know, unless they are handicapped).

It's also not like you get any special privileges by wearing glasses. You don't get a better parking space. You don't get a break on your taxes. There aren't affirmative action laws that require you must be hired before a person with 20/20 vision. In short, inadvertently passing for a person who needs glasses isn't some egregious offense... unless they are those douchey Buddy Holly glasses. Then yes. It's kind of offensive.

Anyway, all you folks with less than perfect eye sight who feel offended by the thought, look at it this way. The people who wear non-prescription glasses are really enacting a form of solidarity. They are showing their support for you by suffering through the same torment that you do. The torment of wearing glasses. You should be thanking them for bringing awareness to your plight! All together now: "We Shall Persevere! We Shall Persevere!"

No way. Glasses are a tool, and they should be used as such. Wearing non-prescription glasses makes you a poser, and, let's face it, posers are ass holes.

Is it medically okay, yes.

Are you a total poser if you wear glasses without a prescription, yes.

Make your choice.

It isn't exactly like using crutches if you don't have to, but for all of us who endured childhood wearing glasses, let us enjoy the brief moment when glasses are a trendy accessory.

Would you carry a Hemingway book around if you could read? Would you sip fine wine if you couldn't taste?

I see nothing inherently wrong with it. Glasses are very stylish nowadays, a far cry from the large squarish monstrosities that I was terrified of needing when I was a kid in the late 80's early 90's. If you like them, go for it.

Personally I really want to get contact lenses for when I engage in outdoor activities in which wearing glasses are inconvenient, but I feel that on a daily basis I would miss my glasses. I have become very attached to my glasses and I think they have become very central to my image over the years, if I ever got Lasic I would probably get a pair of non prescription glasses just because I would miss my glasses so much.

and in response to Edward Alcantara, for a long period of time, carrying a cane considered both a fashion statement and a symbol of refinement for gentlemen. Just because something serves one purpose, (a cane provides support to those who have difficulty walking) does not mean that it cannot sever another purpose for someone else (fashion item).

and really, when it comes right down to it, who cares what anyone else thinks. if you want to wear em go ahead.

no, it is not OK to wear non-perscription glasses. Its faking something for a superficial reason.

I wear glasses and need them for vision correction. I say Yes; there's nothing wrong with wearing glasses only for fashion.

In fact, if you want to avoid the hideous cost associated with brick-and-mortar optical retail, check out the stories at GlassyEyes ... I've gotten pairs of glasses including basic prescription lenses, UV protection, and anti-reflective coating, for under $30 each, through online optical stores.

Yes, it's fine.

To whoever said it's faking something for a superficial reason: isn't that kind of the whole point of fashion anyway?

Sure, why not??? are you asking for medical reasons? aesthetic reasons? or moral reasons? i don't think it should be a problem with of these. From a medical point since you are not really interrupting with your vision i think it should be fine but i'm not an optometrist, although i see that Blake already approved that. Esthetically, if you think it adds to your look DO IT! And as far as offending those who need to wear glasses...i don't see why would they get offended, i have been wearing glasses with a very high prescription for 35 years, if you want to join me go ahead enjoy it! i just find it funny that 35 years ago unless you were Elton John there were not many choices of frames to choose from and they were all big and bulky so even those who needed glasses didn't want to wear them and now days there are so many cool frames that i don't blame you for wanting to wear some, they basically became an accessory... a very sophisticated one and a very expensive one as well.

If your in a band called, "I filled out the census" (thanks daily show) or have a single digit size on the tag of your jeans cause they have pink stitching and should be hugging the hips of a woman instead of you... Knock your socks off. And punch out the lenses while your at it, and just rock the frames. Otherwise, no.

Some of us are just blessed to have poor eye site allowing us to wear stylish bits of glass and metal on the brims of out noses, which give us super human strength like reading text when its not 3 inches from our faces.

Yes.
If you are a woman.

No, for the same reason that I'm not going to go sporting some crutches or a sling for my arm if there's nothing wrong with them.

Appreciate the context. Where will you be wearing them?

a) Corporate Setting? No. You're not fooling anyone.

b) Social? Yes, provided the rest of your outfit is understated.

c) Otherwise...hang them of the centre of your collared, crisp white shirt. No one will say a word against you.

You're joking, right?

Definitely not.
I wear glasses and it bothers me when I see people wearing glasses that aren't prescription glasses, and my friends that wear glasses feel the same. and yes, it's obvious that they aren't real glasses.
People often wear them when they are trying to be more trendy, or something along those lines, and you do not want to be able to be classified with that group of people for many reasons.
Steer clear, mate

Then you'd actually just be wearing frames.
