Try the Men's Wearhouse. They have a great selection and are about as unpretentious as it gets. They will measure you and alter it to fit your perfectly. I purchased all of my suits through them and they have lasted through 4 years of rough government service. Additionally, you won't spend a chunk of gold on them. Most of the guys I worked with went through them for their suits.

Totally agree with Bryan H about IndoChino.com

I had never heard of them before, but I spent about an hour on the website last nigth and was REALLY impressed.

One more thing about off-the-rack suits. I went to a discount clothes shop a few months ago (Marshalls) and was able to find 2 Michael Kors suits for $160 each. Mind you, the pants were pleated (ugh), but they had my size in Navy and Charcoal and the suits were flawless. After some tailoring, they fit very well.

After having purchased off-the-rack suits for the last 5 years, I am ready to try a made-to-order tailored suit from IndoChino.com with one of their custom shirts. Looking forward to it.

Neiman Marcus Last Call is your friend.

I recently found a Hugo Boss Suit at Nordstrom for $795 that I really liked, and then picked it up for just over $300 at the Neiman Marcus clearance center during their 20% off weekend, which is added to all of their other discounts.

And - I didn't have to use a Neiman's card, I just asked for the 20% which they gave me in return for getting on their email distro.

Even if you're not looking for a specific suit (I got lucky) they've usually got a great stock of high end brands at extremely hard to beat. Great selection of shirts, ties, cufflinks, etc... as well.

For reference, here's the suit: http://tinyurl.com/o2xrvc
