Lucky Brand jeans, Gap, and Levi's are all great, relatively inexpensive choices.

I usually end up at American Eagle, I can usually get some on sale for $30-40, I think they top out around $60 regular price.
I have 1 pair of Gap jeans as well, they're pretty good too. I can see myself going there more in the future.
Gap's new 1969 Selvage line is something to check out. I tried on a pair and they're quite comfortable and fit well. They are on the thin side. Gap 1969 Selvage
Also, you really can't go wrong with Levis. I'm a fan of the 501s:
but there are so many styles, washes and colors that you're sure to find something you like for WELL under $100.
I definitely concur on the Lucky brand... I've got a couple pair and they are by far the preferred choices in the closet (my wife agrees too)
You can't go wrong with a pair of Levis. There are lots of styles and cuts to choose from and they will always be in style. I like the 501s, 514s and Levis premium Austin and Hesher.
For me it depends on how much money you are willing to spend but as a 29 32-34 the best priced with the best quality is always Lucky but my favorite brand is Ben Sherman more expensive but fit better and last longer
I am a fan of GAP jeans as well but I'm a big guy and for the money and convenience its hard to beat jeans from Old Navy. I can always find my size and the styles are very similar to GAP. One more perk is for the price of most other jeans I can get at least 2 pair of Old Navy jeans! Check them out.
look at the diesel online store. yeah, diesel has some ridiculous $300+ jeans, but they've always got some of their most popular cuts in a style in the $120-$150 range. Plus they usually have good sales when the new season stuff comes out. It depends what size you are. Maybe a bit more expensive, but they're the only jeans that fit a tall, skinny guy like me properly.
I've always done well with Express (http://www.express.com/catalog/category.jsp?parentCategoryId=1&categoryId=62). They also run sales a couple times a year, so if you can hit those, usually you can end up getting 2 pairs of jeans for around $100.
Shop the clearance rack and/or capitalize on specials. I bought a nice pair of AE jeans for $14.00 on clearance. Discount Coupons also kick ass. Subscribe for e-mail newsletters for up-to-the-minute discount opportunities.
The best place I have found is going to Nordstrom Rack. This is Nordstrom's discount store for their name-brands. You can get 7 for All Mankind jeans (80), Lucky (40), Joe's Jean's (80), even True Religion (90). They don't have a website you can shop at, but to find a local one go here:
Hope that helps.
I am big time digging gap jeans. I am a bigger guy and these Gap Jeans in loose fit and boot cut are great and are usually either on sale or not too expensive
Levis. 514s for straight fit, 511s for slim fit, 527s for boot cut, 501s for their "classic" cut. Urban Outfitters sells them all for around $50 and often times has exclusive washes/colors, both online and in-store.

Should I buy leather dress shoes that can be repaired instead of replaced?
I have a couple nice pairs of jeans (under $200) and to be honest, they are a pain. I've had to get rid of numerous pairs for them shrinking and being too short (I'm over 6 foot). And no matter which nice pair I wear, my girlfriend always says her favorite are my $40 Gap 1969 boot cut, beat-up, broken in pair worn with a plain t-shirt. Hard to argue with that.
