The best thing you can do is just head down to Sunglass Hut or your local retailer and try on anything and everything. All the brands people are mentioning here are great, but they might not have a style that suits your face or they may not be as comfortable for you.

The last time I went shopping for sunglasses, I planned to get some Oakleys but just didn't quite like the way they all looked. After trying several different brands, I wound up with some Arnettes, which are fantastically comfortable and look great on me.

I have been using Julbo Drus forever, long before Hyneman from Mythbusters started using them. I'm at my third pair now. Believe it or not, the first two got stolen from me.

These mountaineering glasses look awesome without the side shields (which may come in handy, you never know) and have always been a trooper. I've dropped them, sat on them, took them into the desert, even butted them face forward against the side plate of an armored personnel carrier. Several times. Not a single scratch. Now I'm living close to the Northern Arctic circle and guess what, they're awesome for the 8-9 months of snow we have here, as well as for the long Arctic day. They've been with me anywhere again, from snowmobiling to ATV'ing to trekking in the bush. All this, while still looking great on formal dress. (Not that I go like that a lot, but still.)

Considering I bought my first pair on a whim and I'm still wearing them 4 years later, I say they're a success story for me.

I'm the manager of an optical boutique and Maui Jim makes some of the best sunglasses around. They have recently released several new styles that look cool, stylish and sporty. The entire line has polarized lenses and there are multiple colors of lenses and frames to choose for each model. Several models are under $200 and Maui Jim has a fantastic warranty and repair program. It's our number one selling line. Most people who own a Maui Jim will not buy anything else.

I agree with most of the comments, but one thing to note is that however you feel about Oakley styling, they have hands down the most advanced lens coatings in the industry. They are second to none. If visual accuracy is paramount, I must recommend their products- especially their polarized line. I like the clean forms on their "Gas Can" line myself. Understated, and sporty. Can dress it up or down.
