No one in the Army is authorized to wear BDUs anymore--we all wear ACUs now. Plus, the Army has also switched to the Army Service Uniform which is essentially the Army Dress Blue uniform and has done away with the greens.
But to answer the question, I wear a diver's watch when in garrison, and a black digital Timex when I am in a tactical environment.

Thanks dudley. I just enlisted and it was a question that had crossed my mind; it was a slip up that I put BDU-- but I hadn't heard about the Service Uniform change. Thank you for your answer, and the corrections!
Although I'm not in the military we wear BDU's in the search and rescue organization I'm with.
Just wear a tough watch that you don't really care too much about getting scratched, etc.
I purchased a cheap $40 G-Shock watch in black that's been great so far and has a setting for military time as well.
Smart turnout makes military watches and watch straps. Great quality with multiple designs.
I personally like the NATO G10 Watch Strap.

I'd say it depends. If you're actually out in the field I'd go with something cheap and durable like a Timex. OTOH if you're a REMF who spends most of their time in garrison I think a nice, solid looking but still modest watch such as a Tag-Heuer or Hamilton is the way to go.
I got my Suunto t3c Black Arrow ever since I first saw it recommended here on uncrate, great all-occasion smart and solid watch that has served me well in this sunny part of the world.
