That one works well for warmth and . Just have to make sure you have a proper length scarf for that (70+ inches)
Don't follow Keith P's advice unless you want to look like a kid. The Chelsea knot (euro knot on that site) is not appropriate for an adult, it's meant for children, and workmen who need to be able to get loose fast.
To tie a scarf:
1) Drape the scarf over your neck about a third of the length along. this will leave one short end, and one very long end. For ease, I make the long end on my right, as I am right handed.
2) Wrap the long end around your neck once, leaving a loose loop (should be covering your collar if you are wearing a shirt).
3) (the hard part) Reach through the loop, and under the short end that you left hanging. Grab the long end (on your right) and pull through.
4) Adjust. The knot should sit firm, but not constricting, with two tails that can be left out, or tucked into your jacket if you want a sleeker look.
You may need to practice it once or twice, but it becomes second nature really fast. It's warmer than a Chelsea knot, more comfortable (it is hard to choke yourself on this knot) and looks much better.
I tend to disagree with adrian p - the Chelsea knot is quick to do and easy to undo, keeps your neck warm, and looks fine just fine under a coat. If style is more important than warmth, your scarf in not long enough to do the Chelsea, or you really want to show off the scarf's pattern, I'd just make a quick knot - loop one side around and bring it up and through from behind. This way the most visible part of scarf is vertical and flat, rather than wrapped and twisted, and can be tucked, ascot-like, into your coat.

I do a full wrap with both ends hanging down in front. I live in Boston, and wear the scarf for warmth not style. I'm also married. Been with the same girl for over 12 years, and don't usually care what I look like anyway. So if you're single wait for someoneelse's advice.
