If you’re looking for a manly bag try Jack Spade. Their products are always functional and simply cool. The REI bags are what I use. They're the same size and shape as your classic paper grocery bags, which actually makes them a bit taller than most of the other cheap reusable bags you see all over the place. Very sturdy and they let people clearly know that you'd rather be out in the wilderness.
For my money, the best is the Granite Gear Air Grocery Bag . They weigh less than 2 ounces and hold 30 li. They hold a bachelor's week's worth of groceries with easy. Except the beer, that gets carried in the other hand.
Timbuk2 has one that folds and zips into itself so you can throw it in the glove box and don't have to carry in and walk around with a big bag while you are actually shopping.

I'm not sure if these are acceptable for use by lumberjacks, but I like the Flip & Tumble bags. Some colors are more manly than others; I went for black/slate myself.
