Calvin Klein makes my favourite tee: short sleeves, wide neck and a little lycra for stretch. They're perfect.
Stafford's are great I prefer thier V-Necks

I could also go with AA, but my latest fav has been BDG, sold exclusively at Urban Outfitters.
Lands' End - Great undershirt. Thick neck that doesn't stretch out over time and they're very comfortable.
Crewneck Undershirt → Lands' End
What do we always advocate around here? Don't mess with what works. Hanes tagless white t-shirts are still the absolute best t-shirts on the market.
Hanes Tagless. They might not last as long as some others, but they are cheap and make great rags when their number is up.
I would say Boss by Hugo Boss, they have nice crew necks that come in a 3-pack at Nordstrom for $30, they feel great and hold up well.
The biggest problem with tees is that they have not kept up with fashion. Most tees will not stay tucked with low-rise pants. They say they have a longer hem, but it's rarely true.
Lately, Old Navy tees are the most reasonably priced ones I've found that actually have a wearable length. I am never without a t-shirt and have tried many over the years, but the length disappears after one or two washes on almost all of them. What's really annoying is that I'll find some that are good, but within a year or two they change and I have to search all over again. I've found that more expensive tees are a big waste of money. You should be tossing them out every 6 months or so anyway - maybe a year if you have a lot of them to cycle through.
I have been very pleased with Target's Merona Ultimate V-Neck
The low cut v-neck goes great under a dress shirt and gives you the flexability to go tie-less. also the 5% Lycra gives it a good stretch fit.
I really like 2(x)ist brand shirts. Normally they can be pretty pricey but if you have a Nordstrom Rack store near you they sell them at a pretty good discount.
My favorite right now are J. Crew broken in tees and the Jaspe tees that I found because of Uncrate.
Costco's Kirkland brand are very good. I've tried many different types of white T-shirts and my wife says that I definitely look best in the Kirkland.
For what it's worth, here's my experience with undershirts
Top picks:
- Nordstrom Great feel, launders well, decent hem length, holds shape thru the day. First set is still going strong after 24 months. Recently redesigned to be tagless, the new set seems to run a little smaller than previous
Maybe's:
- Brooks Brothers Indestructible. Tho some discolored a little after 12 months
- Hanes Meh. Neck didn't hold shape, discolored w/in 12 months. Tagless shirt printing began to peel & irritate after 3 months
- Nautica Workhorse shirts. Sleeves shrank up after 18-24 months. Neck looses shape thru the day
- Old Navy Heavier than most, not always great under a slim-fit dress shirt
- Ralph Lauren Comfy, but shrank up & discolored after 12 months. Self-destructs shortly thereafter
- Target's Merona brand OK feel. Doesn't hold shape very well
Steer clear:
- Calvin Klein shrank 2 sizes in the first wash. They are dead to me.
- Wal Mart's George brand felt gross & synthetic
I would recommend Stafford from JC Pennys thats what I mostly buy or go to the local t-shirt outlet and they should have t-shirts that are a little thicker and a have a more variety of colors.
this is a tricky question, because it all depends on what specific features you are looking for. for example, are you looking for something fitted or box cut, longer cut, 100% cotton or blend? also, it depends on what you want to spend on undershirts.
i've been doing a poll on my site for some time, and out of around 400 results, readers prefer the following undershirt brands:
1. Hanes 15%
2. Calvin Klein 11%
3. JC Penny Staffords 9%
4. 2(x)ist 8%
5. Jockey 8%
6. Kirkland 6%
personally, my top 5 undershirts are:
1. ribbedtee classic fit
2. tommy john second skin
3. jockey echelon
4. 2(x)ist 100% cotton - seamless - made in thailand
5. alfani basic & stretch crew
there are a bunch of folks who absolutely love the jcpenny original vintage towncraft 50/50 undershirts made in the 70's & 80's that are no longer available. i just got my hands on a few and have to say they are pretty incredible - just a little too short for my liking!
good luck!
the undershirt guy
Sunspel is always good. If its good enough for Bond, its good enough for me, though they're hard to come by stateside so I only have a couple.

I have 2 Favorites. My first is a T you wear as an UnderShirt because it is a fine mesh, the Sunspel Low V-Neck Shirt, it is really a scoop neck and very comfortable. The second is the Neiman Marcus Crew or V-Neck T-Shirt, they're really soft and last long.
I wear Banana Republic's Pima Cotton T-Shirts.
They fit well, and are very soft. My only issue with them is that stains set in very quickly with them if you can't wash them right away or treat the stain with something. I've had to rotate a few into my drawer full of "around the house" t-shirts for that reason.
Kirkland brand from Costco. great price, nice feel, last a while, and has a longer tail that stays tucked in.
Depends on what kind of music you listen too..
Rap - Pro Club
Hip Hop - Stafford V-Neck
Rock - American Apparel
Country - Hanes
Heavy Metal - n/a
I agree with Aaron A. The hanes, tagless, non stretch collar undershirts are perfect, simple and exactly the amount of time you should be spending thinking on undershirts: next to none.
American Apparel TriBlend
or
Alternative Vintage
Going to have to second the undershirt guy.. I did some research a few months ago and ended up going with the Alfani Silpure T's from Macy's they are awesome... I have to go from climbing on roof's to sales presentations in minutes year round and not stinking on my second appointment is something only the Alfani's have been able to provide.
I'm partial to the Gap v-necks; Banana Republic are also nice - a bit heavier than the Gap version. No tags.
I like Icebreaker
I guess technically it's' Bone not white but oh well
Splended Mills' plain t-shirts. They are ungodly expensive but the fit and the feel are nearly unbeatable. If anyone knows a cheaper shirt that feels/fits like these I would be very interested.
add another vote for Hanes tagless - have tried all the name brands - Polo, CK, Nautica, ETC - they all wear out, but the Hanes rock. simple.
My vote goes to Albam, just off Carnaby St, London. Sunspel are pretty cool too.
L.L. Bean CareFree Unshrinkable T-shirts are outstanding. They are very comfortable with a thicker material than standard undershirts. They don't shrink after repeated washing. They are my favorite t-shirts. To back it up, they have a lifetime money back guarantee.
Hanes! I have been wearing nothing but plain t-shirts for the last 10 years and have tried every brand you can think of. All of them shrink or start to float after washing except Hanes.
Banana Republic's Fitted Tee has a slightly more slim fit, and comes in tall sizes so you don't get armpit wedgies if you're tall and lanky like me. They've held size and shape well for bajillions of washes.
Unquestionably, Under Armour Relaxed Crew. Once you try it, you'll never go back. Yes, a little pricey for an undershirt @ $20/per but the look, feel of the fabric, etc are top notch.
I really like EVER's t-shirts I believe they make ones without any print but also All Saints and polo make very good white t-shirts.

Stafford classic fit gets my vote. Much thicker than your standard undershirt (haines, FTL, Jockey, etc) and still widely available.
