Looking for white sands and clear water for my girlfriend and I.
Instead of a hotel, why not rent a condo for a week?
Otherwise, I highly recommend the Koa Kea hotel/resort in Kaua'i
It's in southern Kaua'i, so you'll have less tourists and better beaches.
It's certainly a bit pricier, but check out The Kahala (www.kahalaresort.com).
It's a gorgeous hotel with an incredible history, and the best part is how secluded the beach is- you get away from all the Waikiki tourist traffic, and get an actually private and relaxing vacation.
Beautiful rooms, great food, great location, and the stay of your life.
We stayed at the Napili Bay Condos in Maui, was even better than we could of expected... reasonable price and right on the ocean.
I was just in Hawaii in October, depending on where you are staying and how close to the beach you want/need to be, I had great luck with VRBO.com - we found a townhouse right next to the Ritz Carlton on Maui, had easy access to the same beach, and full access to all their amenities, about 500 feet from the water and at about 1/3 the price per night. VRBO.com stands for Vacation Rentals By Owners, so you're renting directly from condo/home-owners. True, you may not get room-service or daily maid service, but I was able to find a 1 bedroom townhouse with an amazing view, full kitchen, living room, patio, 2 full-baths, right next to the pool (not the Ritz's pool, but the quiet one for residents of the development only), and only a few minutes walk to the beach for less than $200/night. (Full Disclosure: I am in no way associate with VRBO.com, I am just a happy customer who's saved money and found a great place through their service.)
four seasons on all of the islands are really nice and definitely worth the price you pay.

Depends on which island you are visiting. If you are visiting Honolulu I would check out the Hilton Hawaiian Village - Waikiki Hotels: http://www.hiltonhawaiianvillage.com/
I've stayed there before and it was great. It is also right on the beach.
If all else fails, I would just sleep in the sand.
Check it out and good luck.
