I'm already digging Pandora. But what are some others?
last.fm is my choice
Part internet radio, part social networking site...
Last.fm is a bit like pandora but it will "scrobble" your iTunes library, iPod, and iPhone to see what you have been listening to the most and determine what kind of music you like; then will make recommendations based on that. Friends that are also on last.fm can be added and you can see what they have been listening to and what your music compatibility is with that person. iPhone app is also available for free; definite bonus!
I visit Slacker. I paid for premium plus membership ($47 per year), unlimited skips, no ads. Worth every penny IMO. They also have a app (like Pandora) for the iPhone.
I recently found GrooveShark
Its similar to pandora and free, allows you to queue music and save playlists
Check out Lala.com. You can listen to complete songs the first time - which beats listening to just 30 second samples of new music. It also has a community feature where you can follow people and see what they are listening to, share music recommendations, and save a collection of your favorites online. You also have the option to buy legal and unrestricted mp3s for less than some other popular sites. Its my favorite site to preview, listen, and buy my music.
I like Last.fm better than Pandora. I'll play the Last.fm radio as well as look at the "Similar Artists."
Another place is http://muxtape.com/, they still have some good music on there.
I'd also like to second the last.fm recommendation. Been a user for years. Absolutely love it.
If you're looking for some good underground hip hop, check out http://www.tunnelsofdug.com
This blog usually includes download links to the album or song.
I use a combination of Last.fm, google reader, and multiple music blogs. Detailed here
Although not perfect, I generally approve of the "Similar Artists" section at http://www.allmusic.com
I use www.deezer.com and www.spotify.com They are like european equivalents of pandora and last fm. Deezer has some great radio stations especially if you are looking for some up and coming stuff from Europe.
Hands down it has to be Pitchfork. They have been around a long time and do really good reviews of brand new music—not just new music by well known bands, but up and coming bands.
Also, they have a kick ass list of best albums from each decade; you'd be surprised with some of their selections. Great site.
has to be one of the best mp3 blogs out there.
they update very frequently.
lots of free mp3s for your collection.
they cover a wide variety of music
I am totally hooked on referring to my favorite music critic, Robert Christgau, for insight into what tunes to buy. He has reviewed albums since 1967. You might be thinking "ohh this old geezer doesn't know anything about 'new' music". He has insights about current music as well. He publishes a monthly "consumer guide" on MSN music where he reviews about 20 cds he digs on along with dud of the month (my favorite part). You can read several of his previous consumer guides at:
http://music.msn.com/music/consumerguide/archive/
Every review he has ever written is available on his website as well.
I must note he recommends cds worth your hard earned money. Not single tracks. I read pitchfork every now again but the problem is that I can't calibrate my taste to the site because there is a different reviewer for every album.
Pandora is already a classic. Also, check out Grooveshark - they have a ton of songs you can stream and recommend a new artist every time you search.
Created and narrated by the amazing guy who does the ongoing history of new music (another amazing show).
i really like elbo.ws .
it is a music blog aggregator. It compiles all of the blogs that people post about new music, and organizes it. So it's all content generated by a bunch of folks who care alot about music. there doesn't seem to be any commercial or corporate influence.
if you want new indie type music that the general masses havent herd of try http://www.nodata.tv/
greetings from the uk
Last.FM http://last.fm
... Better than any music site out there. I feel that I have quite a stacked iPod because of this site.
rcrdlbl - http://rcrdlbl.com - really great site, give away real mp3's! There is some junk to sift through but the Friday highlights email is where I get most of my music.
Without a doubt, Jelli.net
User controlled web radio. You can vote songs on and off the air.
AwesomeX
All good suggestions. No one has mentioned IMEEM yet: http://www.imeem.com/.

for starters...
New online radio network in alpha - GOOM Radio - all different genres of music.

I love pandora and pitchfork, but there is a site that you can cruise to that'll let you try/buy/listen/download albums. they also have really good reviews. enjoy:
www.bolachas.org
by the best is http://stereogum.com/ enjoy the music... and news...
Modern Dorkology is consistently good. You can stream the music from the bottom of the page. Also, you can email them and they will send you the mp3 of anything you like.
The best that Ive seen thats opened me up to alot of good music is http://aurgasm.us/ great blog that post 2 or 3 times a week. Also when you find a site that you really like look at the blogroll they have. Most of the time it simular music to what they have. I have found great blogs that way.
I'll also vote for lala.com
The new Muse record came out this week. I was able to listen to the whole thing online once. There were enough interesting songs to make me want to hear it again, so I paid $.99 for the online album (listen online as much as I want) and I still have the option to buy the individual MP3s if I find that I love it down the road.
So far, I think I'm glad to have only spent $.99 on the album, for the record...
One more thing about lala - the player is static at the top of the window. You can search around in the area below it without disrupting the music, unlike many sites. It might not seem like a big deal, but it's a very user-friendly site.
All My Little Words always finds new bands before everybody.
http://www.allmylittlewordsonline.com
My personal favorite is the Percolator function on Sad Steve as well as the 4 crowd-sourced playlists they have (the studying and running playlists are probably the best, in my opinion)
I am a huge fan of both last.fm as well as imeem
I have also found a few useful podcasts via itunes for checking out new music, look into MPR: the current song of the day, KEXP song of the day, and NPR: All songs considered podcast. They all release a new song everyday that is free to download. These have helped expand my taste in music greatly.

I second the vote for Hype Machine - as a searchable metablog with trending artists, it's a great way to on top of new music quickly, and most of the links provide a download for your non-streaming listening pleasure.
use daytrotter.com. fo sho. no really its pretty awesome, free downloads, in-studio sessions, and a fair variety of alt/rock. or just try listening to a different station in the car to expand your horizons
Once you have found the music, I recommend checking out emusic (www.emusic.com) and Amie Street (http://amiestreet.com/) to download it. I particularly like Amie Street to download because the community sets the prices so if you find a small band that you like on one the sites others have mentioned you can usually download their CD for $1-$5 which is a great deal.
Musicovery.com actually lets you pick a genre and a mood, then returns a playlist of music that fits both. It's like somebody mashed up Pandora, Visual Thesaurus and a mood ring.
Slacker.com. It's free and you can create your own station which will play bands you like along with similar bands that you may not be so familiar with.
Here's a vote for www.cdbaby.com
Plenty of offering from a variety of options.. Have ordered a couple CD's from them in the past and they have great service as well.
Pandora.com is the best and easiest way to find new music. Make a station, input some of your favorite artists, and Pandora will play music that correlates with your favorite tunes.
Minimal work and great results.

Check out Chompin for mobile music discovery on Android phones (search "chompin" in the android marketplace). Indexes thousands of music blogs like Pitchfork and let's you play and read on the go. iPhone version coming soon. Also, it's free. ;)
