I wear a pair of Rainbow comfort classics all the time without socks. the are all leather, except the sole, so there is no foot smell. I have a pair of Sanuk's which make my feet smell awful.

I'd go for a pair of Sanuks. They're incredibly comfortable and if they get dirty or smelly you just throw them in the wash and they come out like new. http://www.sanuk.com/products/341027

for a more casual/athletic style i personally like puma's el rey slip on over vans. the soles are much more comfortable, imo.
