What does 'resort casual' mean?
I am going to Vegas and one of the restaurants we are going to is "resort casual." What does this mean? Are jeans okay? I am not really a khakis guy.
In Vegas specifically, you are fine to wear jeans if the restaurant says "resort casual." Even the restaurants at the Wynn/Encore, where even the fancy SW Steakhouse is "resort casual" allows jeans.
That said, we're not talking just any jeans. You don't have to spend $150 on a pair to be safe, but you definitely should wear darker jeans without any kind of aggressive wear (i.e. holes, shredding).
In general, "resort casual" means: nice jeans, collared shirt, no flip/flops, but nice sandals are a-ok. Khakis are always safe, but that's really more "business casual" than "resort casual."

- A gentleman's resort casual look for day tends to consist of a classic polo shirt or other collared top. Jackets, with the exception of denim, are appropriate for layering, as are knits and pullovers, as long as they are classy and presentable. A non-denim bottom, such as khakis, linen pants or chinos are approved bottoms. Men's flat shoes are the best footwear, worn with matching socks to correspond with footwear, which is brown or black. White socks should never be worn in evening wear, and black socks work well with a gentleman's loafer or other dress casual shoe.

Hold on, don't automatically rule out Hawaiian shirts. Stop laughing, no really.
Check out a really good quality fabric with a subdued and well-matched pattern (no aqua, yellow and orange) in a quality herringbone rayon. Think Tommy Bahama, Kahala, and Kamehamea, not Chang's Tourist Emporium.
The Hawaiians call Vegas "the thirteenth island", there are alot of them there and the aloha shirt is universally accepted. And it looks great.
Yes, you can wear jeans if they are new.
Linen pants, trim madras shirt or polo, classic straw hat, boat shoes, sunglasses. Maybe a blazer at night.
Jeans are not resort casual, and I'd stay away from socks. You don't have to look like Ricardo Montalbon or like a comedian's version of an American tourist. Keep the cuts slim and the cloths airy.
