We went to Verana in Puerto Vallarta. Small, well designed, boutique resort. Every room is in a separate, uniquely designed building. Food is included and usually includes seafood or Mexican or a combination of the two. It's also only accessible by boat which makes it a bit of an adventure. We went for around $3k, great deal. www.verana.com

Go to Mobissimo or Kayak and click on "Deals"

They have a bunch of all inclusive resort packages for rock bottom prices. We have found some pretty great deals on both those websites.

Personally, if you've never been- a cruise might actually be a lot more fun and allow you to see a lot more of Mexico then an actual resort. Get a beautiful balcony room in the biggest boat you can find, and you will get a floating "All-Inclusive Resort" that will let you see more then one side of Mexico.

Also the western coast of Mexico is much more beautiful and less touristy then the "MTV" style resorts on the east coast.

Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo San Lucas are well worth seeing. And if you're feeling adventurous check out Tijuana.

Have fun and congrats on getting married.

I also honeymooned at the Aventura Spa Palace in the Riviera Maya. The resort is amazing. Great pools, large rooms (that are cleaned and refreshed with curious consistency) and clean grounds. There are plenty of communal areas, but there are also plenty of places for you and the new bride to sneak off and be alone. It was romantic without being cheesy and there are plenty of excursions including trips to Mayan ruins and swimming with dolphins.
Additionally, there is a special dinner for guests who are honeymooning or celebrating an anniversary. We met some folks there that we still keep in touch with 'till this day! There is also a full service spa that pampered even a Harley rider like myself.
You can also take advantage of the grounds of 5 other Palace resorts nearby including one with a outstanding, yet challenging, golf course and another with a zoo. (A real zoo in a resort!)
I could go on and on, about the disco, the attentiveness of the staff, etc. We heard lots of horror stories from friends about their honeymoon and were a little nervous about the process, but we had the best start to our marriage there at the Spa Palace. I highly recommend it.

I agree with the Aventura-goers. We have been there twice and even became members of Palace Resorts.

For our 10th anniversary we checked out an "ultra"(?) luxury all inclusive, Le Blanc in Cancun. It's owned by Palace Resorts, but the guests are not allowed to visit (but you can go to the other Palace resorts). It is small with about 250 rooms, but the staff gets to know you and even refers to you by name. Lots of personal touches. Large wine list (Aventura only has a couple types), if that is important to you.

Use your personalities to decide how a resort will fit into what you want to get out of your stay (in addition to the usual honeymoon "activities").

Enjoy whatever you decide! And congrats on taking the plunge!
