Instead of an electric blanket, I prefer and have been using a heated mattress pad, like this one from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It's less restrictive than a heated blanket weighed down over you and you can use all the sheets/blankets/comforters you normally use.
I think the Slanket sucks. It's poor, low quality material and it is difficult to function while wearing one.
I have a dual side control electric blanket with wireless remote but I can't remember who makes it... I'd highly recommend it.
Electric blankets give off high EMF readings which have been proven to be a health risk. Invest in a good set of flannel and down...great combination and safe.

Why? A good comforter should keep you plenty warm without the extra complexity and fragility of an electric blanket. Down is always good, or if you want something that's easier to take care of, a washable synthetic comforter from Wiggy's will do the job. Wiggy's makes sleeping bags for polar explorers. Your bedroom will not be a problem.
