My first impulse is to avoid the chardonay. Lobster is delicate, and I would want something a little crisper to compliment the butter. I would recomend something lighter like Sav Blanc if you want still wine. My favorite is champagne or any sparkling wine. Cava can be great, and reasonable if you're on a budget. I've also had some good Oregon Pinot Gris on a recent trip which are also reasonable.
I am a personal fan of a Chardonnay or Pinot like Tom recommended. Red is out of the question totally.
While traditionally a pinot or chardonnay, really any white is appropriate there's a rule to wine that counteracts all the rest-"drink what you like" If you've got a favorite red you've been dying to pull out drink it.
I'm going to second Alex's comment - "Drink what you like."
However, I'd try to steer away from big, chewy, full-bodied reds. They tend to overwhelm most food, and the point is the lobster dinner, is it not?
Try it with a good champagne. I like champagne with seafood generally, but it seems like an special pairing with the richness of lobster.

I'd recommend a crisp, dry Oregon Pinot Gris. Many can be found for around $10. A particularly good one in that range is produced by A to Z. Erath Vineyards also makes great Pinot Gris for around the same price.
