What is a great writing utensil to use with a Moleskine notebook?
I'd look for anything that uses a fisher space pen refill - those things always write smoothly.

Go with a Fisher Space Pen
Super small for your pocket, yet full sized when writing. And with its presurized refill it will always write and never skip no matter wear you are. They also seem to last forever
I'm a fan of the Pilot G2 series of pens (.7mm). Smooth writing, and they don't bleed through Moleskine pages, as many pens often do. On top of that, they're CHEAP. If you're using a Moleskine, it probably means you're writing on-the-go. No sense taking the chance of losing a pen that cost more than the notebook itself.
If you want a pen, I've been hard pressed to find a better writing, cheap ballpoint that the Bic Atlantis.
If you want a writing instrument look into getting an understated (read: without gold, platinum, or gemstones) Mont Blanc. Forgoing the flashy parts will keep the cost down and you'll have a fantastic writing instrument for jotting things down that's also appropriate for meetings and other business occasions.
I use my Mont Blanc... though I am scared of loosing it. I have to regularly take notes and draw diagrams while on residential roof's. There is no better writting instrument in the world IMO.
I use a "Cross Tech3 pen": http://amzn.com/B000BFWJTO with my moleskine journal. The pen is satin black with silver accents and has a very classic look to it. It also feels good in your hand, with a bit of weight to it while still feeling light and usable.

I'd go with something unassuming like the Conklin Black Victory Ballpoint Pen & Fountain Pen. These are based on the original Military Issue that Conklin produced for soldiers in the early 1940’s. I got a set for Christmas this year and love to use them with a Moleskine or Levenger Circa.
