I am soon taking a trip where I can't bring a garmet bag but i must bring a suit.
The One Bag site has great info for packing clothes, wrinkle-free, in travel bags.
I've heard good things about SPACEPAKs, which use some sort of compression dealie. I think they were featured on Uncrate, too.
This site Has a pretty good description of how not only to pack a suit, but everything else as well.
Fold the suit to match the dimensions of the bottom of the suitcase and use socks, t-shirts and underwear as packing material (ignore the pun).
Heavy stuff goes in first, then the suit, then the light stuff. Wear your heaviest shoes and pack your lighter pair.
Best tip I've gotten with this is to (after drycleaners if applicable) keep the suit in the plastic slip provided. Then make sure to secure the suit against something flat. And with your dress shoes, stuff them with business socks to keep the shape.

Since people are mentioning bags I'll add this. Ran across it recently at Moores, it's not a garment bag per say but it is. Looked pretty effective for packing everything and a couple suits. It's called SkyRoll
Keeping the suit in a plastic slip is a must. But packing depends if there's a few clothes or a lot .Believe it or not, the best way is to carefully roll up the suit. sounds crazy but it works.
One option you also have for your dress shirts: ask the drycleaner to press, fold, and box them for you. They'll come in plastic bags and will fit into your carry-on perfectly. Suit in the drycleaning bag is also a helpful hint.
depends on your suit case size, probably putting it on top, or in the middle would be good otherwise, just wear it there and if you need to get it dry cleaned when you are there.

My favorite method for packing dress clothes is the rolling method. I lay all my shirts on top of each other, fold the sleeves over the torso of the shirt, then roll from the bottom up to the collars without rolling the collars. It's too easy for things to shift and put an odd crease in a collar.
As for pants, same method. Lay the pants out on top of each other, then roll from the bottoms up.
I've packed a month's worth of dress clothing (though obviously not 30 of everything) into a medium sized suitcase.
