I have a really bad black eye. Should I go with sunglasses indoors, makeup that looks weird, a patch or what?
Try, Arnicare It comes from the plant Arnica. I used to play professional soccer. I was turned onto this by my sports medicine doctor. It works miracles on sprains, bruises, and just about any injury that isn't an open wound. Triathletes use the pill form to help break up lactic acid in their muscles faster and speed recovery of aches and pains. It smells like Aloe and has the same consistency. Your bruising and swelling will lessen dramatically compared to natural healing. And a perk, it's completely homeopathic so no extra crap like so many other types of medicine.
Go with an eye patch or something. I don't know if its the best solution, but if I were you, I would want to get that puppy covered up.
I judge people with black eyes. When I see someone with one I think "You are an angry man, lets never hang out." I might get into the same stuff that seemed to end up happening to you.
Cover it up.
Definitely Ice and Elevation. Cool compresses are coming now with a soft covering so they can be directly applied to the skin without fear of hypothermia related skin changes. And as long as your head is ok, try to also avoid analgesics (like aspirin) which will make that bruise spread like an oil slick.
--See your local eye doc to get dilated too. Retinal tears and detachments after trauma around the eye can show no signs early and end up with permanent vision loss.
->EyeDoc.
Sunglasses indoors just draws more attention to your black eye. Depending on where you are (work, school, bar) I would just wear a baseball cap, with the rim pulled down pretty low. But I also agree with Nick, wear that black eye proudly along with a big ole smile. Black eyes are great conversation starters.
There are plenty of treatments out there that don't require a medical waiver. I liked what I saw with Kiehl's Facial Fuel Eye De-Puffer although it sounds like you might have some busted capillaries which are leading to the deep discoloration.

Learn how to fight! Sorry, bad humor. But I'd use an ice pack for a while (make sure not to put ice directly on your skin), and sleep with your head slightly elevated, which should help reduce your eyelids swelling.
