Bauhaus Chessmen

Bauhaus Chessmen

True to Bauhaus tradition, Josef Hartwig's Bauhaus Chessmen ($450) show a form follows function approach to chess design with simple, solid maple pieces whose shapes reflect the moves each is allowed to make. The gorgeous 32-piece set comes packaged in a beech wood case that includes instructions and a history of the design. Part of MoMA's permanent collection, you might want to grab the matching Bauhaus Chess Board ($300) if you're thinking of picking up a set.

  • Scissor Spiders

Handmade from scissors confiscated by airport security, Scissor Spiders ($250) are some of the meanest-looking cubicle candy we've seen in a while. Measuring six-inches across and nine inches across, respectively, these metal menaces will have your vinyl toys running for cover. [Thanks, Christopher]

  • Mighty Muggs

Hasbro is bringing the urban vinyl toy market to the mainstream with the affordable Mighty Muggs ($10-$15). "Made from 100% recycled awesome," these chunky 6-inch tall toys are currently available in Star Wars and Marvel characters. Choose from Chewie, Darth Vader, Han, Luke, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan, Stormtrooper, Darth Maul, Boba Fett, and C-3PO. In March, you'll be able score Lando, Princess Leia, Jango Fett, and Clone Commander Cody. Spider-Man, Venom, Iron Man, and Wolverine are your only choices for superheroes. And sometime this summer, you'll be able to buy Indy, Henry Jones, Cairo Swordsman, Monkey Man, and Mola Ram with beating heart accessory (!).
