Land Rover Project Hero

Built by Rover's Special Vehicle Operations unit in collaboration with the Austrian Red Cross, the Land Rover Project Hero is designed to be a vital emergency response vehicle. It's based on the 3.0L TD6 of the new Discovery and has a roof-mounted drone to help provide live footage to teams on the ground. Using a world-first self-centring and magnetic retention system, it allows the drone to land safely back aboard even when the vehicle is in motion. Appropriately, the truck is outfitted with many communication systems, auxiliary LED lighting, power supply points that can support different plugs from different regions, and a heavy-duty sliding rear floor that can be deployed as an additional work surface. It will be shared between the Austrian Red Cross training centers in Erzberg and Vienna for the next six months.

  • Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet

Using the G-Class as a base, the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet adds an off-road model to the luxury sub-brand. It's powered by a twin-turbocharged V12 engine, paired with a four-wheel-drive system to handle any terrain. Although the entire interior is covered in diamond-stitch two-tone designo upholstery, the inside really caters to the passengers. The rear compartment sits below an electric fabric top for an open-air experience and can be completely closed off from the driver with a glass partition — with an opaque switch for maximum privacy. The seats fully recline and are equipped with a calf rest and a heated massage function comparable to a hot-stone massage. Other features include folding tables, cooled or heated cupholders, and two 10-inch entertainment systems. Limited to just 99 units.

  • 2018 Ford Expedition

It's been more than 20 years since the first Ford Expeditions rolled off the line, and while it's been updated several times, the changes the 2018 Ford Expedition has undergone might be the most dramatic. The new SUV arrives at about 300 pounds lighter than its predecessor thanks to a new aluminum body and lightweight components. It also boasts 22-inch polished aluminum wheels and a prominent, new chrome grille. Inside, the Expedition comfortably seats 8 and features Sync 3 with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a B&O Play premium sound system, wireless charging, WiFi hotspot, and Sync Connect app-based vehicle controls. A timely refresh for one of the constants in the ever changing world of SUVs.
