Sometimes concept cars are just that — concepts meant to allow the company's designers and engineers the equivalent of work-sponsored recess. Other times, they offer glimpses at future models, like the Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Break (Yes, not brake). Sporting a bold new look it will undoubtedly share with the new four-door CLS, the Shooting Break features a panoramic sunroof occupying most of the roof, full LED headlamps, a flat load rear floor that adds extra utility to the hatchback, frameless side windows, a twin pipe exhaust system, a full-length wood console, and 20-inch sterling silver (!) wheels. Powerplants will range from a 300hp, turbocharged V6 to a turbocharged, 5.5L V8 pumping out 563hp, which will hopefully make you feel better about driving a six-figure station wagon.
"To hell with climate change," you say, "I want to drive around in a small fortress." May we suggest the 2011 Infiniti QX56 ($56,700 and up)? This monstrous full-size SUV offers room for up to eight passengers, your choice of two-wheel or four-wheel drive, a 400hp 5.6-liter V8 engine, 8,500 pounds of towing capacity, an available nav system, Bose stereo, and dual seven-inch monitors, 22-inch wheels, an eight-inch WVGA touch screen display, and the ability to offend any hybrid-driving hippie you come across.
