Robocar Driverless Race Car

Designed by automotive futurist Daniel Simon and outfitted with a bevy of cameras, sensors, Lidar, and Radar systems, the Robocar Driverless Race Car promises autonomous driving at high-speeds. The car will run in the Roborace, a series of global driverless racing events. A 540kW battery and four 300kW motors provide power, carbon fiber makes up most of the chassis and body, and it's "driven" by a Nvidia Drive PX2 brain capable of 24 trillion operations per second. Combined with advanced algorithms, it should be capable of navigating circuits at speeds of over 198 mph, making for compelling racing without the need for a driver.

  • Ford GT Competition Series

    The Ford GT is already a track-worthy machine. The Ford GT Competition Series just takes it a step further. Built specifically for racing, it has a host of modifications meant to reduce its weight. Carbon fiber racing stripes, A-Pillars, and side mirrors join a Perspex acrylic engine hatch cover and Gorilla Glass in eliminating weight higher up in the vehicle, moving its center of gravity down towards the road. Removed are creature comforts like A/C, the stereo, and cupholders, in the name of maximizing performance, and weight-saving features like carbon fiber wheels, titanium lug nuts, and a special exhaust — usually optional — are standard equipment, making this the most racing-focused Ford available.

  • Italdesign Supercar

    Italdesign has been helping companies build cars for nearly five decades. This year, they've taken on a new client: themselves. Conceived by the designers and engineers working in concert, the Italdesign Supercar is a potent mix of styling and performance. Built atop a modular carbon fiber and aluminum chassis, it has a body made entirely of carbon fiber. The upper portion has smooth lines in keeping with Italian tradition, while the lower half is meant to maximize aerodynamics. As for power, it has a 5.2L V10 engine, good for a 0-62 time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of over 205 mph. Limited to just five examples for the 2017 model year.
