Everyone needs a good tape measure, but unfortunately most of them will only standout about six or seven feet — not good if you're trying to measure something by yourself. The Stanley Fat Max Tape Measure ($20) features a 1 1/4" easy to read blade, but here's the real kicker: it has an eleven-foot standout, making it much easier to measure longer distances.
We readily admit to not buying a lot of tools here at Uncrate HQ — but when we do, we make sure they serve their purpose well. The Bionic Wrench ($30), a hybrid between a wrench and pliers, is one of our newest additions. It uses a patented design to grip bolts on all six flat sides, reducing the strain on the corners of the bolt and allowing the user to multiply their gripping force, making it easy to turn the hardest of bolts. It also won the Red Dot Award Best of the Best 2006 for pioneering design in a category (Tools), which tells us it's just as easy to use and efficient as it sounds.
The A2 Aviator ($200) might be the last flashlight you'll ever need. It uses a two-stage endcap button to switch between a bright, three-LED light, and a Xenon beam strong enough to temporarily blind someone — a handy trick if you happen to live in a crime-infested city. The best part about it? It's small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. [Thanks, Brewer]
When it comes to trimming branches, we don't exactly have Bunyan-esque skills — which is why we were so happy to hear about the Black and Decker Alligator Lopper ($100). It features an innovative design with clamping jaws that grab and hold branches with one move, a 4.5 Amp motor, a heavy-duty cutting bar, and a 4" cutting capacity.
We normally show you tools that help you build and fix things, but for those times when you'll be doing more demolition than construction, check out the Stanley FatMax Xtreme Fubar Functional Utility Bar ($40). It features two-tiered jaws for grabbing common-sized lumber and decking, a beveled nail removal slot in the crowbar tool, and a textured grip for comfort and increased control. [Thanks, Nick]
