Grab your iPod nano and your best pair of swoosh sneakers, and get ready for the world's biggest one-day running event. The Nike+ Human Race is the company's first global 10K event, with a goal of having one million runners competing across the world, in cities like LA, New York, London, Madrid, Paris, Istanbul, Melbourne, Shanghai, São Paulo and Vancouver. Each city will also host its own post-race concert, with names like Kayne West (LA), Moby (London), and Fall Out Boy (Chicago) scheduled to appear. As with any good global event, runners will be able to run for one of three official charity partners: the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the WWF, and the UN refugee agency's ninemillion.org campaign. Get out there, and get running.
Celebrate all things Dude at the 7th annual Lebowski Fest in Louisville, Kentucky. Besides lots of bowling, ample white russians and the occasional acid flashback, this year's festivities include comedian Brian Posehn, an appearance by Liam, several music acts and movie screenings, the presentation of a Lebowski cake by Duff from Ace of Cakes, and the premiere of the documentary The Achievers. Lebowski Fest is today and tomorrow. Saturday. I told those fucks down at the league office a thousand times that I don't roll on Shabbos. [via]
Yes, it's every bit as cool as it sounds. A 60 team dash from NYC to Montreal using only rental cars (OK other cars are allowed too, but rental car use is encouraged). Entry is a paltry $150, but you're responsible for your expenses along the route. Buy-in does, however, include a huge blowout party on the night the rally ends. Also be sure to read the entire event site for some great comedy.

Looking for an excuse to get away this weekend? Then book your tickets for Vegas and head over to the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino for the 2008 USA Rock Paper Scissors League Championship. Sponsored by Bud Light, the event will run all weekend, with the champ being crowned on Sunday, June 22. The champ will receive a $50,000 prize and a ticket to compete in Beijing, China during the Summer Olympics. Not in the Olympics, mind you, but instead in the inaugural International Rock Paper Scissors Federation Championship, where they will compete against the champions from Canada, Guam, Hong Kong, Ireland and Malaysia to see who is the world's best Rock Paper Scissors player. 1, 2, 3... go!
The Teva Mountain Games is the largest outdoor adventure sports and culture festival, and it returns to Vail, Colorado June 5th through the 8th. You'll find pro and amateur outdoor athletes from around the world in exhausting sports like cycling, trailer running, freestyle and extreme kayaking, kayak and raft paddlecross, bouldering, fishing, speed and dyno climbing, mountain bike freeride, big air, cross country, and road racing, as well as the first U.S.-based World Cup Climbing event in 20 years. But it's definitely not all about sports at the Teva Mountain Games. There's lots of live music and nightlife, a mountain photography competition, a Gear Town exhibition and demo area, and mountain lifestyle parties. Oh, and don't forget the awesome dog competitions.
While we're over here buying $2 bottles of water, more than a billion people all over the world have little or no access to clean water. Help change that a bit this weekend, just by going to dinner with friends. Thanks to the Tap Project, you can go out to eat at a participating restaurant and easily donate a minimum of $1 for each glass of water served. The donations go to UNICEF to provide safe drinking water to poor areas. For every dollar raised, a child in need will have 40 days of clean water. Donations also accepted online.
If you'd rather see Porsche, Ferrari, and Audi supercars battle it out instead of domestic family rides turning left all day, head down to Florida this weekend for the 56th annual 12 Hours of Sebring ($80-$500). Besides the main event sports-car enduro, which runs through Saturday, there are a bunch of off-track activities you can check out, including a Party Zone with live entertainment and the Hawaiian Tropic bikini contest.
South by Southwest 2008 (SXSW) kicks off today, and for the next 10 days, it'll serve as the center of the universe for music, film and the web. The yearly event ranks very near the top of that "things everyone should go to before they die" list. Help make St. Patrick's Day an official holiday by signing Guinness' Proposition 3-17. In order to present the petition to Congress, Guinness needs 1 million signatures by midnight on March 16th. So let's help them out. Sign the petition online or text "SIGN" to 65579. Guinness really wants your support — they're even sponsoring Uncrate this month to get the word out — and we could all use an extra day off from work.
Mark your calendars, left-coasters. During the weekend of August 22-24 your shores will be set upon by the greatest band on earth — Radiohead. The occasion? San Francisco's first annual Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival. While tickets are not yet available and the full lineup hasn't been announced, we do know that the remains of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers have been made into ShowBiz Pizza-style animatronic puppets to headline one of the other nights. His few living fans (they're about as rare as WWI veterans) are cordially invited to wheel, walker and/or crawl out of the Haight for one last dance with Mary Jane at Golden Gate Park. Jack Johnson will also be on hand to assist with crowd dispersal.
They've won a combined 26 Grand Slams, 9 U.S. Open Championships, and 12 Wimbledon Titles — and on March 10th they'll face off at Madison Square Garden. The NetJets Showdown will be the first time the legendary Pete Sampras and world No. 1 Roger Federer go head to head in the United States. A few tickets ($133-$3,360) are still available to this exhibition match showcasing the two best tennis players of all-time.
