We hated the last Eclipse body style so much we're surprised Mitsubishi sold more than 30 of the damn things. However, we still consider the 95-99 Eclipse to be one of the best all around sports cars that you can actually afford — we even had a 97 tricked out with Stillen gear. Luckily, Mitsubishi realized the current Eclipse sucked and fired the crystal meth-using monkeys that designed it and styled the all-new 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT (starting at $24,600) after our favorite. Its 3.8-liter MIVEC engine provides 263 horsepower and is available with a six-speed manual or a five-speed Sportronic automatic transmission. The new eclipse features a nimble McPherson sport-tuned suspension and has one of the more subtle and pleasing futuristic-styled interiors. The GT's available premium-sport package includes a powerful Rockford Fosgate audio system with a 6-CD/MP3 in-dash changer and nine speakers (including a 10-inch sub), 18-inch alloy rims, heated leather seats, a power sunroof, and alloy pedals.
