Ideal for severe weather conditions, the Arc'teryx Alpha SV ($600) is one tough jacket. Made with waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex Pro material, the lightweight shell keeps even the burliest of winds out. It features a drop-back hem for rear coverage, a high collar and helmet-compatible hood, water-tight zippers, underarm zips for ventilation, and harness HemLock for hardcore climbing. We tested one on a recent mountain expedition snow tubing trip, and while it might have been overkill, the jacket, along with some base layers and a pair of Arc'teryx Sidewinder SV Pants ($400), kept us dry and toasty all day.
