Chevrolet Cruze

Chevrolet Cruze

Taking design cues from the company's latest Malibu, the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze ($TBA) is the auto maker's latest attempt to reinvent its small car. The car, which will debut in Europe before making its way to the states, will feature one of three powerplants ranging from a 112-hp 1.6L four cylinder to a 150-hp turbodiesel, paired to either a five speed manual of a six-speed automatic. GM claims the car's interior will feature "grained surfaces, soft-touch materials and low gloss trim panels" to make it more like a Civic or Jetta and less like, well, a Chevy — which is good news if you ask us. While it'll be built in Ohio, the Cruze will first go on sale in Europe next March, followed by North America and other areas thereafter.

  • 2009 Acura TSX

With a great blend of sport, technology, and luxury, the all-new 2009 Acura TSX ($TBA) has its sights set on the C-classes and 3-series of the world. The slightly larger and longer sedan is powered by an all-aluminum in-line 4-cylinder engine pumping out 201 hp, paired with either a short-shift 6-speed manual or Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic transmission. Quiet and stable, the TSX's interior comes standard with Bluetooth, a USB port music interface, a 7-speaker sound system, and can be outfitted with the Acura Navigation System with voice-recognition, a premium 10-speaker sound system from Elliot Scheiner, and real-time traffic updates. It's like a Civic for grown-ups.

  • Volkswagen Passat CC

The Passat is getting a much needed revamp later this year. In addition to an all-new, Benz-inspired design, the Volkswagen Passat CC ($TBA; Q4 2008) offers several innovative assistance systems, such as the Lane Assist lane keeping system; Dynamic Drive Control electronic chassis control system; Park Assist parking assistant; and ACC Automatic Distance Control with stopping distance reducing Front Assist. The CC, which VW calls its first four-door coupe, also sports a huge, electrically actuated Panorama power vent sunroof. The Passat CC will come standard with the 200-hp 2.0 TSI engine, available with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed Tiptronic transmission. You can upgrade to the 280-hp 3.6L FSI, which comes standard with the 6-speed Tiptronic transmission.
