Cooking with All Things Trader Joe's

Cooking with All Things Trader Joe's

While we're far from monks, the Uncrate staff tends to believe that simplicity is the key to a happy life. Whether that simplicity comes from a gadget or something else is largely irrelevant, the importance is that it makes our life easier. In this case the ease comes from the Cooking with All Things Trader Joe's ($20) cookbook, an excellent collection of recipes that, as the title dictates, uses only items found at Trader Joe's. If you're of the unlucky stock who live in an area void of Trader Joe's, promptly pack up your life and move elsewhere, your life can't possibly be simple enough living away from such a staple of city dwelling.

  • Little People in the City

Living in a large city can be overwhelming — people can often feel lost amongst so many, and this feeling is perfectly conveyed in the brilliant photography of Little People in the City ($18). This hardcover tome represents a collection of photographs from street artist Slinkachu, who for the last several years has photographed and then left tiny hand-painted figurines all around London — and has chronicled his work in a terrific blog. A perfect book for your coffee table. [Thanks, Tim]

  • Havana Before Castro

Relive the golden era of Cuba's premiere city in Havana Before Castro by Peter Moruzzi ($20). The book is packed with full descriptions, hundreds of vintage photographs, postcards, brochures, and more from the era of The Godfather Part II-style casinos, nightclubs, and shady deals. It's like a trip back into time, without the legal hassles of actually trying to visit.
