Some call it a brutal and horrifying film that doesn't deserve to be seen. Others call it a work of art. But one thing's for sure — it's unrelentingly sadistic and will be appreciated by any cinephile. The controversial Funny Games ($20) is a shot-for-shot remake of a 1997 Austrian film of the same name, focusing on a family terrorized by two insane young men at a country vacation home. Even though a lot of the violence happens off screen, the disturbing film is still hard to watch. Besides the physical and psychological torture, there are other oddities thrown in, such as when the thugs break the fourth wall, talking directly to the audience, and even altering the plot of the film at one point.
