  • Voyager Golden Record

The Voyager I and Voyager II spacecraft left earth in 1977, on a mission to capture fly-by photos of the planets as they made their way to interstellar space. Mounted to each was a golden phonograph record containing a mix of tribal, classical, and (at the time) contemporary music, as well as greetings in 55 human languages, one whale language, a mix of sounds heard on our planet, and over 100 images encoded in analog. The Voyager Golden Record: 40th Anniversary Edition celebrates this historic event by letting you listen to the records yourself. Housed in a cloth-covered box, the three translucent gold vinyl LPs contain remastered versions of the audio recordings on the originals, accompanied by a lithograph of the Golden Record cover diagram, and a hardbound book filled with images from the original message, photos the spacecrafts returned to earth during their journeys, essays, and other ephemera.
