ICON FJ44 Petersen Special

Being chosen for a spot in the redesigned Petersen Automotive Museum would be "special" enough, but the ICON FJ44 Petersen Special is also notable for being the company's one hundredth custom Land Cruiser. For the occasion, ICON has updated the original FJ40 in a number ways, most obviously expanding the body to include four doors, an adaptation made possible by a custom mandrel-bent Art Morrison frame and hand-crafted aluminum body finished with a polyester hybrid powder coat. A Chevy-sourced 6.2L supercharged V8 provides 530 hp, transferred to the beefy wheels via a 4-speed transmission. It packs tunable Fox Racing shocks, Brembo brakes, and a refined suspension for off-road prowess, while the interior keeps you comfortable with a Vintage Air Gen IV HVAC system routed through anodized aluminum vents, heated seats with Chilewich woven inserts, and a CarPlay-compatible Pioneer touch screen head unit. On display through this fall.

  • 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Truck

Depending on configuration, the Tacoma was already no slouch off-road. But if you want the ability to tackle the toughest terrain, you'll want the keys to the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Truck. Based on the TRD Off-Road 4x4 Double Cab Short Bed, it comes in three colors — white, metallic red, or gray — and in your choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmission. No matter which you choose, you get a host of special upgrades and features, including 16-inch black alloy wheels with Kevlar-reinforced tires, a beefy aluminum skid plate, LED fog lights, Fox internal bypass shocks, TRD-tuned front springs and rear suspension, and, of course, that vintage-style grille with matching black hood scoop.

  • Sherp ATV

"Look at dat monster dump truck swimming in da water," said our resident preschooler. That's as good an introduction as any to the Sherp ATV. This Russian-made, adult-sized Tonka truck may have only 44.3 hp, but it turns on a dime, has two seats and an ample cargo area, can climb obstacles over two feet tall, and can swim with ease thanks to oversized self-inflated tires. It also has a durable polymer coating on the outside for added toughness, a 15.3 gallon fuel tank, and optional add-ons like another 15 gallon tank in the wheels, a generator, independent heater, and high-powered headlights.
