Pentax Optio W90

Pentax Optio W90

The compass-inspired print around the lens of the Pentax Optio W90 ($330) isn't just for looks: it's one of the most rugged digicams around. The W90 is Pentax's 11th-generation waterproof digital camera, and offers water protection down to 20 feet, shock protection to four feet, weatherproofing for solid operation in sub-freezing temperatures, dustpoofing, a 12.1-megapixel sensor with 5x optical zoom lens, a 2.7-inch LCD, a digital microscope with LED lens for macro use, 720p HD video capture, Pixel Track Shake Reduction, and an HDMI port that makes it easy to share photos of your adventures. And we really hope that's just mud.

  • Sony Cyber-shot TX5

Sleek, stylish, and tough aren't words that normally describe the same product, but they're certainly applicable to the Sony Cyber-shot TX5 ($350). The TX5 offers many of the same features found in the company's flagship TX7 compact — including an Exmor R CMOS sensor, Sweep Panorama mode, HD video recording (720p, instead of the TX7's 1080i), a touchscreen LCD, 10fps shooting, and Optical SteadyShot image stabilization — but packs them into a rugged body that's dust proof, waterproof to 10 feet, and shockproof to 5 feet.

  • ZipShot Tripod

Take a full-size tripod with you everywhere with the ZipShot Tripod ($50). Weighing in at only 11 oz. and folding up to a manageable 15 inches, the ZipShot features a unique design that sees the 'pods spider like aluminum legs unfold to provide a stable, 44-inch tall platform for the metal ball-head. With a maximum weight load of 3 lbs., it can handle all but the heaviest SLRs and lenses with ease. [Thanks, Bob]
