Pirate Radio

Pirate Radio

Although our modern day selves can't really imagine a world in which music arrived only over the radio waves, and was held hostage by stodgy old broadcasting companies, that really used to be the case. Based on a true story, Pirate Radio ($21-$24) takes us back to those days, chronicling the adventures of a group of rogue radio operators transmitting from boats off the English shores to bring the "new" rock music to BBC-suffering youth. Sure, the whole "from the creator of Love Actually and Notting Hill" makes us want to run away as quickly as possible, but a rebellious storyline coupled with solid turns by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, and Rhys Darby keep this from turning into a date night nightmare.
