Rome - The Complete First Season
If you thought Deadwood was a bad-ass historical drama, you really need to watch Rome. Set in 52 B.C., the show depicts the brutal, bloody, and sexual events during the transformation of the Roman Empire and the shift of power between Pompey Magnus and Julius Caesar. But it's not all politics. Rome focuses on a friendship between two soldiers who become true heroes (trust us when we say that this collection is worth buying just for the gladiator scene in episode 11). The DVD set ($63) offers all 12 episodes, commentary, featurettes and more. Highly recommended. We can't wait for the second season to start in January.
