Sony DSC-T5 Digital Camera

Sony's new super slim Cyber-shot DSC-T5 Digital Camera ($350, available in Sept.) combines a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 3x optical zoom, 5.1 megapixel resolution, a 2.5-inch LCD screen, and 32 MB of internal memory. The lightweight, aluminum camera also has a Memory Stick PRO Duo media card slot, the ability to capture MPEG video, and comes in four autumn colors — red, champagne gold, silver and black.

  • Sony DCR-PC55 MiniDV Camcorder

Digital camcorders offer amazing features and allow for great artistic flexibility once the video gets back to a computer. The one major problem we’ve always had with them are that most are simply too damn big for us to take anywhere but events where we are shooting video as a job, and then we take a high-end model, all of which are way too big to take around sightseeing or the like. With the Sony DCR-PC55 ($650), our troubles may be over. At only 10 ounces and a diminutive four inches tall and only three inches wide, this little fella is only slightly bigger than a 60GB iPod — pretty impressive for a device with a three inch touchscreen.

  • Leica Digilux 2

Love the creative possibilities provided by digital photography, but just can’t bear to part with the feel of your old rangefinder? Check out the Leica Digilux 2 ($1100). It features 5 megapixels of imaging power, a 2.5” LCD screen, a shutter speed dial, and focus and aperture dials right on the lens. With the Digilux 2, your stubborn “I won’t use digital” photographer friends may not even realize you’ve made the jump.
